Dial-up Internet Connection Setup
1. Click the “Start” button on the
lower left hand corner of your computer.
2. Select “Settings” from the resulting
menu. (If necessary.)
3. Select “Control Panel” from the
next menu.
4. Double-click “Network Connections.”
5. Double-click “Create a New Connection.”
6. Click “Next.”
7. Choose “Connect to the Internet.”
8. Choose “Set up my connection manually.”
9. Click “Next.”
10. Choose “Connect using a dial-up modem.”
11. Click “Next.”
12. Type “Rural Communications” in
the ISP Name box.
13. Click “Next.”
14. Enter your local dial-up number in the “Phone
Number” box. This number is located below.
15. Click “Next.”
16. If you see the “Connection Availability” screen,
select “Anyone’s Use” and click “Next.” Otherwise,
skip to the next instruction.
17. Enter your full user name in the form of
username@vhst.net. Your username is located above.
Please do not
confuse your username with your e-mail address,
it won’t work!
18. Enter your password in the “Password” box,
and again in the “Confirm Password” box.
19. Click “Next.”
20. Check the box next to “Add a shortcut
to this connection to my desktop.”
21. Click “Finish”.
22. Close or minimize all programs until you
can see your computer’s desktop (background
with icons).
23. Double-click the newly created “Rural
Communications” icon.
24. If necessary, enter your full user name (not
e-mail address!) and password again.
25. Check “Remember this Password” if
it isn’t already checked.
26. Click “Dial.”
You’re on!
